Our History and Characteristics

Located at the foothill of Guizili Village in Taishan District, New Taipei City, Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) spans an extensive 62-hectare area. The origins of MCUT can be traced back over 200 years to the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, when the old site of Ming Chi Academy, established by Mr. Zhuo-You Hu, a tribute student from southern Fujian Province, stood adjacent to the current campus. At that time, many distinguished talents and cultural elements were gathered here, making it the so-called birthplace of culture in northern Taiwan.  In 1963 Mr. Yung-Ching Wang and Mr. Yung-Tsai Wang, founded Ming Chi Technical College.  They named the technical college “Ming Chi” with the purpose of encouraging teachers and students to follow the examples of sages and take responsibility for carrying on the heritage for the future. Today, this cultural attraction has become the cradle for cultivating outstanding scientific and technological talents. Over the years, MCUT has been fully supported by the Board of Directors and a tremendous effort from our faculty and colleagues. We continue to recruit outstanding researchers, integrate on-campus research teams, and combine the Innovation Incubation Center with manufacturers in industrial areas nearby.  As a result, the collaboration between MCUT has led to the establishment of a regional university-industry collaboration platform. Our dedication to refined school management concepts has resulted in the graduation of over 34,000 alums from our esteemed institution.

Department Overview

The teaching units include three colleges, i.e., College of Engineering, College of Environment Resources, and College of Management and Design, with ten departments, 11 research institutes, three doctorate programs, and one general education center.

Development Mission and Vision

In accordance with the educational philosophy of its founders, Yung-Ching Wang, and Yung-Tsai Wang, MCUT places particular emphasis on student counseling and moral development. The "Residential Life, Academy Education" program was established to foster students' practical abilities, exceptional interpersonal skills, and good character. By integrating the practical training concept of "learning by doing," MCUT has implemented the "Work-Study Internship" system since its inception, mandating that each student applies theory into practice to enhance their problem-solving skills. Over the span of fifty years, our institution has remained dedicated to the vision of "nurturing talents with equal focus on theory and practice while fostering sound moral character through on-campus accommodation" in its mission to educate future leaders in society.

MCUT's educational philosophy is deeply connected to its motto of "Diligence and Perseverance." With the original goal of contributing to society, the school focuses on holistic education to nurture hardworking, straightforward professionals who value theory and practice and possess lifelong learning skills. The school aims to cultivate talent to integrate industry and academia in technical and vocational education. Besides developing students' professional qualities and competitiveness, the school also emphasizes the significance of providing humanistic care. The school is actively enhancing its competitiveness to tackle increasingly severe challenges in response to social changes, declining birth rates, and a highly competitive environment. The school's financial structure is robust thanks to public recognition and the unwavering support of the board of directors. Together with innovative and proactive administrative services, this has established a strong foundation for the school's sustainable development and attaining its educational objectives.

MCUT is currently oriented as “a university that focuses on R&D through industry-academic cooperation" and is committed to transforming into a science and technology university that combines "talent cultivation and knowledge innovation." The founders work hard to uphold the vision and goal of "Establishing the best university" and aim to position Ming Chi's research team as the "top partner" for enterprises.
