Principal's Message

University education not only broadens students' knowledge but also guides them to understand various aspects of human, social, and natural phenomena through courses and activities that explore life. By providing an open-minded appreciation and respect for diverse cultures and opinions, it equips students with the ability to think independently, engage in lifelong learning, and develop a broader perspective and aesthetic perception. Therefore, from cultivating professional competence to fostering a liberal arts education that integrates various disciplines, from nurturing interpersonal skills to instilling qualities aligned with global citizenship standards, the mission of university education is unequivocally essential.

Technical universities, as part of the higher education system, belong to the vocational and technical education sector. Their primary function is to cultivate various levels of technical professionals to meet the demands of industries. Through practical teaching methods, students develop hands-on skills, obtain professional certifications, and cultivate good work habits, professional dedication, and ethics. Ming Chuan University of Technology adheres to the founder Mr. Wang Yongqing's and Mr. Wang Yongzai's down-to-earth educational philosophy, upholding the school motto "Diligence and Simplicity." The university is dedicated to cultivating talents with practical applications and cross-disciplinary innovation, as well as fostering students' character and well-being. Through the "College Life" system, students' humanistic qualities and social awareness are nurtured, promoting interpersonal relationships. The "Work-Study Practical Internship" system further develops students' hands-on problem-solving abilities, enabling them to face their careers with a responsible attitude.

The robust development of vocational and technical education should be closely linked to industry demands. In addition to talent cultivation, emphasis should be placed on technology development, particularly in practical research. This is a crucial aspect of vocational and technical education. Teachers must be aware of the challenges currently faced by industries and actively engage in practical efforts to identify solutions for businesses. Only through such efforts can vocational education align with both current and future industry needs. Ming chi University of Technology, with its unique positioning of the "Private Sector Industrial Research Institute," focuses on addressing the "technical needs of the industry." The university collaborates with businesses to assist in resolving challenges and providing practical solutions.

University education also carries the mission of social responsibility, particularly in addressing local concerns and issues related to industrial transformation. Our institution, centered around the Taishan Ming Chi Academy and linked with the Five Corners Guardhouse, has established a belt-shaped museum to preserve memories and rescue traditional craftsmanship. Simultaneously, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we integrate our university's expertise and technology to promote the linkage and sustainable development of New Taipei City's industries. Our focus lies in the smartification of traditional businesses and the enhancement of product value, aiming to elevate their productivity and competitiveness. We also collaborate with the local community activities of Sanxia Old Street, emphasizing "neighborliness," and connect with cultural partners to further engage in community building through a unique approach of "cultivating neighbors." This approach aims to create a distinctive atmosphere where "community is culture, and culture is life," ultimately contributing to the goal of cultural sustainability.

On the other hand, to guide students in participating in social issues and organizing actions, we have designed "action-oriented" teaching activities. Students engage in local community organizations, cultural and educational initiatives, and contribute to community development. Through innovative thinking and social design, we deepen the understanding of industrial transformation, community cultural and creative endeavors, local history and culture, and environmental and ecological issues among our faculty and students. We also foster a sense of local identity and collaborate with residents to promote community cultural life experiments.

We implement a multi-faceted approach, including involvement in multicultural communities, exploring partnerships in the indigo dyeing cultural cooperative, and various other initiatives. The goal is to assist in improving local cohesion, promote action plans for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhance the competitive advantages of regional industrial and economic development. Additionally, in the neighboring areas of Xinzhuang, Taishan, Wugu, and Linkou, there are issues related to new immigrant families and international migrant workers. Our university collaborates with partner schools to connect with local government agencies, organizations, and communities, establishing mutual support platforms. Through these efforts, we collectively address the concerns of Taiwan's new immigrant population and their children, thereby expanding the scope of the university's social responsibility.

As Ming Chi University of Technology celebrates its sixtieth year, accompanying the growth of Taiwan's economy and society, we also recognize the environmental challenges posed by this development. The global industry is continuously contemplating and questioning how to address the ongoing rise in temperatures due to climate change. Our university has currently adopted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a comprehensive research and educational objective. We are conducting a curriculum review and initiating a carbon inventory to prepare early for carbon-neutral strategies and timelines.

Simultaneously, we are actively collaborating with industries, fulfilling our university's social responsibility to collectively address various environmental pollution issues. By doing so, we aim to contribute to creating a better world and making meaningful contributions to our nation and society. Through these efforts, we strive to ensure the sustainable development of our campus.
