iReading

To facilitate book donations and increase reading opportunities for the general public, teachers, and students, MCUT launched iReading on Facebook communities in November 2014. Users can register and log in using their Facebook accounts. They can share iReading information in Facebook groups and request book exchanges through the iReading website. The system tracks each donated book to maximize the sharing of book resources. MCUT has also organized physical events to promote iReading outside the online platform, including nine iReading gatherings and two book display days. As of December 31, 2023, the platform has provided 6,608 books and recorded 17,037 book exchanges.

LEGO Story Machine

Our library holds about 171,663 books. We have also issued library cards to provide more convenient book-borrowing services to our alums, retired faculty, and staff. As of December 31, 2023, 1,240 alums and retired faculty and staff received library cards, and 108,403 books were borrowed.

Due to changes in readers' habits, there is a growing disparity between the information obtained from mobile phones and traditional printed books. Additionally, readers' heavy reliance on online content has led to fewer opportunities for thorough and comprehensive reading, resulting in a decline in book borrowing rates. Reports from London Ground indicate that people can access stories of varying lengths from story machines at their convenience. These machines have a unique design and dispense story paper in an intriguing manner. In response to this trend, we devised the idea to enhance readers' interest in print books by creating our own story machine. Our machine uses LEGO-like blocks to dispense text strips, offering a fresh approach to promote the reading of printed books. Since its launch in August 2021, the story machine has been clicked 9,760 times since December 31, 2023.
