Student Counseling
Counseling and Psychological Test
Higher education is an essential stage for teenagers before they enter the society. Studying, peers, family, internship, intimate relationships, etc., can bring challenges to students physically and mentally. The Student Counseling Division is the first line of defense established by MCUT to care about students’ physical and mental health on campus. The Student Counseling Division provides individual counseling, growth groups, psychological tests, and other relevant services to assist students in overcoming their psychological difficulties. Individual counseling is not only offered to people with problems or abnormalities. Many students who desire to know them better, solve difficulties, and pursue a better quality of life can explore, face, and solve their challenges with the support of counseling psychologists. As for growth groups, many activities have been planned, such as groups or workshops with themes of self-exploration, emotional relationships, interpersonal relationships, learning strategies, and career planning. Led by counseling psychologists, members can share and support each other to know and recognize themselves better and learn how to interact more efficiently. Additionally, psychological test services are provided according to student’s needs, including an interpersonal behavior scale, career belief checklist, career interest scale, etc., thus enhancing students’ self-recognition and understanding. Furthermore, new students requiring a high level of care can be screened from the psychological tests and then counseled and followed up. Moreover, we make great efforts to prevent campus depression and suicide and help students value and perceive their physical and mental statuses. Furthermore, the test results will be provided to mentors and coaches for reference so that they can help care for these students in daily life and establish a student support and care system. In the 2022 academic year, there were 124 students requiring a high level of care, and 30 required level 3 care. Psychologists from the Student Counseling Division provided counseling services. There were 94 students requiring level-2 care. Mentors or coaches supplied life guidance and referred them to the psychologists from the Student Counseling Division based on students’actual needs.
Student Career Counseling
MCUT focuses on holistic education and has established an “Operating Procedure for Employment Counseling” to assist graduates in mastering the industrial trends and getting employed successfully, as well as cultivate a correct concept of professional ethics for the students, improve their workplace employment competitiveness, implement education of professional ethics for students and strengthen graduates’ employment service channels and matchmaking effect.
Certificates and Second Expertise
To improve students’ professional skills, competence, and workplace competitiveness, MCUT has established “Measures for Rewarding Students’ Professional Skill Certificates” in coordination with Taiwan’s certificate system. Each department is required to determine the types of relevant professional verification certificates that can improve students’ employability according to their teaching goals and arrange certification study or counseling courses to assist students in obtaining certificates through exams. The Office of Library and Information Services and the General Education Center shall establish relevant measures governing information (computer) and language (except English) certificates to encourage students to cultivate their second expertise. In the 2022 academic year, graduates from the Undergraduate Program obtained a total of 1,172 professional certificates at grade B or above during school, i.e., 1.37 certificates per student on average.
Graduate Direction Investigation
To improve the employment rate and workplace competitiveness of students after graduation, we have established a complete graduate tracking system through cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Therefore, we can practically master the employment direction of 90% of fresh graduates every year and the direction, employment conditions, and self-evaluation of core capabilities of 75%-80% of graduates one year after graduation. In the 2021 academic year, the results of the graduate direction investigation after graduation for one year indicated that the employment rate of graduates from the Undergraduate Program reached 92.8%, while those from the Master Program reached 96.9%. The average monthly salary of graduates from the Undergraduate School reached NT$ 39,479, while that of graduates from the Master Program reached NT$ 49,980. Additionally, to understand whether the alums' employability and professional attitude comply with the workplace requirements, MCUT conducts an employer satisfaction survey for 50-100 enterprises that have employed its graduates annually. Employer satisfaction with graduates reached 82% in 2021, 86% in 2022, and 84% in 2023, respectively. Relevant survey results will be used as an essential reference for the adjustment of the teaching direction of the university.
Awards from Participation in Off-campus Competitions
Students from each department of MCUT participated very actively in competitions and performed excellently. MCUT won the “Light of Vocational Skills” honor from the Ministry of Education for seven consecutive years (2017-2023). In 2023, at the National Practical Special Production Competition of the Ministry of Education, six teams among nine finalized teams won the awards, including three teams winning the second prize, two teams winning the third prize, and 1 team winning the excellence award. The number of competition awards won by MCUT ranked the first prize among private universities of technology. In 2023, participating teams from MCUT won six gold awards, five silver awards, two bronze awards, and two excellence awards at the Young Designers’ Exhibition, ranking first in Taiwan regarding the number of awards. In the 2022 academic year, 45 international competition awards (growth rate of 325%) and 49 national competitions (growth rate of 155%) were increased. Considering the substantial growth in these two types of competitions, MCUT teachers have concentrated on the innovation of teaching strategies and contents and strived to inspire students’ learning interests and potential so that students could participate in relevant competitions and win important awards.

Alumni Relations
In 1969, MCUT established the Alumni Association to promote communication among its alums and build a network. The association was officially registered as a social public welfare group, and its council members and supervisors were elected and appointed by the members. As globalization progressed, alums from different regions formed global branches and organized communication and fellowship activities to strengthen emotional bonds among local and overseas alums. Additionally, the association publishes monthly electronic specials about alums to share information. It also regularly supports and plans alum activities in various locations. Furthermore, the association hosts significant annual events such as "Alumni Coming Home," during which 5-10 outstanding alumni are publicly praised and awarded the Excellent Alumni Award at the Alumni Assembly.
MCUT also holds alumni experience-sharing symposiums and arranges for alumni with excellent work achievements or professional knowledge to return to MCUT and share their experiences. We also provide school students with opportunities to visit and learn from alumni in each field.
In 2008, we launched the "Founder Wang Flame-Passing Scholarship." With regular donations from alums, we aim to help outstanding students from underprivileged backgrounds complete their studies successfully. Since the launch of this program, our alumni have responded passionately, resulting in donations totaling approximately NT$43.37 million. In addition to this scholarship, we have also worked to leverage external resources in response to the "Higher Education Sprout Project-Improvement of the Publicness of Higher Education: Improving the Schooling Assistance Mechanism and Project for Effectively Promoting Social Mobility" by the Ministry of Education. Through collaboration among the university, the Ministry of Education, and alums, we have enhanced a counseling mechanism for disadvantaged students. Furthermore, with alumni donations, we have established "Grants for Supporting Disadvantaged Students to Fulfill Dreams." In conjunction with equal-portion funds granted by the Ministry of Education, we have applied for the "Project for Helping Students Achieve Their Dreams" to assist disadvantaged students further, enabling them to study without financial burdens. Many alums have also established individual scholarships to support their peers and help alleviate the financial burden on disadvantaged families through regular fixed-amount donations.
