publish date : 2024-08-20

In response to the global trend toward net-zero carbon emissions, electric vehicles are set to become the future of mobility. Since 2022, Ming Chi University of Technology has partnered with Formosa Plastics Transport Corporation to establish the "Intelligent Vehicle Startup Accelerator," aiming to promote the development of domestically produced electric commercial vehicles through collaboration between large enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses. In early July, the "Demo Day Presentation" was held at the Intelligent Vehicle Research and Development Center of Ming Chi University of Technology, showcasing various innovative outcomes and technical strengths in electric commercial vehicles. The event brought together prominent guests from industry, government, academia, and research sectors, including the Director of the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (MOEA), who made his first public appearance in the industry after assuming his position, highlighting the importance and approachability of his role.

During his speech, Vice President Cheng of Formosa Plastics Transport Corporation emphasized that the company leverages its rich resources and market influence to integrate manufacturing, R&D, supply chain management, and marketing. By partnering with numerous startups, the company fosters close collaboration among upstream, midstream, and downstream enterprises in the electric vehicle industry. The domestically produced electric commercial vehicles displayed on-site not only reflect the significant achievements of the Intelligent Vehicle Startup Accelerator since its inception but also demonstrate that Taiwan possesses the technical capabilities for the complete vehicle development of electric commercial vehicles, accelerating the arrival of the era of domestically produced electric vehicles.

President Liu of Ming Chi University of Technology stated that the Intelligent Vehicle Research and Development Center is a crucial driver in developing domestically produced electric commercial vehicles. As a "R&D-focused technological university," the school actively promotes the application of its research capabilities to the industry, exemplified by the domestic electric commercial vehicles developed by team members combining theory with practice. In the core technologies' development and application, the center provides valuable knowledge and innovative solutions, enhancing the performance and reliability of electric commercial vehicles. Moving forward, the university will continue to deepen cooperation with the industry to promote the application and development of more innovative technologies, further strengthening the overall capability of the intelligent vehicle industry.

The event showcased two 2.5-ton electric commercial vehicles developed by the Intelligent Vehicle Research and Development Center. Additionally, several startups nurtured by the Intelligent Vehicle Startup Accelerator presented key subsystems, including vehicle control units (VCU), motors, thermal management, drivers, and batteries. The showcased innovations also featured integrated systems like the Internet of Vehicles, intelligent co-pilot systems, and smart key authorization.

The key subsystem suppliers included DOMI, offering new-generation AI imaging fleet management solutions; Kefi, providing one-stop ECU development services; Haoyou Electric, specializing in smart energy services; Chuying, delivering comprehensive solutions in battery management and energy storage systems; and Yajing, offering maintenance services for electric and autonomous vehicles. Covering fields related to electric vehicles, intelligent vehicles, and green energy, the Intelligent Vehicle Startup Accelerator has established itself as a robust platform supporting startups and fostering collaboration. It aims to drive the advancement of the intelligent vehicle and green energy sectors, contributing significantly to global green energy and carbon reduction goals, and creating new opportunities for the industry.
