【Environmental Education】The Office of University Social Responsibility of Ming Chi University of Technology Teams Up with Community Volunteers to Improve the Luzhou Embankment Environment
Ming Chi University of Technology and the Shuihe Village Office of Luzhou District, New Taipei City, organized two creek cleanup events on the Luzhou embankment on July 13 and July 22. The aim of these activities was to promote community environmental protection and enhance residents' environmental awareness. The events attracted the participation of 70 teachers and students from Ming Chi University of Technology and 15 volunteers from Shuihe Village.
During the event, participants carefully sorted various types of trash, including plastic bottles, Styrofoam boxes, disposable tableware, agricultural waste, and bagged garbage. Over the course of the two events, nearly 100 bags of 14-liter eco-friendly trash bags were collected, with the total weight of the garbage amounting to approximately 200 kilograms. These activities not only rejuvenated the Luzhou embankment but also effectively prevented river pollution caused by garbage during typhoons.
According to a survey conducted by the Society of Wilderness in 2023, the Luzhou embankment is one of the three major waste hotspots in the Tamsui River basin. The successful organization of this cleanup activity helps to improve the environmental condition of the Tamsui River basin, reducing the threat of garbage to aquatic ecosystems. Despite the hot weather, participants diligently carried out the garbage cleanup work, learning and practicing the importance of waste sorting. The event was filled with a spirit of cooperation, and everyone contributed their part to environmental protection.
Volunteers from the Shuihe Village Office highly praised the success of the event and thanked the teachers and students from Ming Chi University of Technology for their enthusiastic participation and hard work. They stated that this event serves as a good example of promoting community environmental protection work and expressed hope for more opportunities to jointly promote community environmental protection in the future, preventing environmental pollution caused by natural disasters.
The successful organization of this creek cleanup event not only improved the environment of the Luzhou embankment but also enhanced the environmental awareness of community residents. It is hoped that through community service activities, more people will be attracted to focus on and participate in environmental protection affairs, working together to create a better living environment. Ming Chi University of Technology's USR program also promises to continue participating in and promoting more environmental public welfare activities in the future, contributing to the sustainable development of society.
