【Local Humanistic Studies】In 2024, the Painting Taishan Competition will feature a hundred art enthusiasts from across the country capturing the beautiful Taishan.
Taishan Top Temple is dedicated to Xianying Zushi, bestowing widespread benevolence and serving as the spiritual center of Taishan District, New Taipei City. It is also an invaluable oriental art palace. To celebrate the temple's 270th anniversary, the "2024 Painting Taishan Sketch Competition" will be co-hosted on June 29 by Ming Chi University of Technology, Nanya Technology Corporation, and the New Taipei City Taishan Arts and Culture Association. This event aims to uncover the beauty of historical sites, rallying 178 painting enthusiasts from across the country to showcase their talents and further appreciate the unique scenery of the district.
Chairman Li Qiuyi of Taishan Top Temple expressed gratitude to important local schools and enterprises, Ming Chi University of Technology and Nanya Technology Corporation, for organizing the second Painting Taishan Sketch Competition. This event allows art enthusiasts from various regions to get closer to traditional temples, experience the cultural, artistic, architectural, and humanistic beauty of the local religious center, and innovate the traditional cultural significance of the temple.
President Liu Zuhua of Ming Chi University of Technology stated that Taishan Top Temple and Nanya Technology have long collaborated with the university to promote local cultural and educational endeavors, enlightening cultural seeds and nurturing local pillars. This year, a high school category was added, with nearly 200 registrations before the competition, and participants from Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and other counties and cities. Many students used rich colors and unique artistic styles to create a beautiful painting of Taishan, showing their potential to become outstanding artists in the future.
Director Hsieh Chang-chih of Nanya Technology Corporation mentioned that fostering good neighborly relations is a key focus of Nanya Technology, emphasizing talent cultivation, environmental conservation, and humanistic care as their main principles of social engagement. Adhering to the principle of giving back to society, they maintain a good relationship with the local community. This sketch competition integrates culture and aesthetics into everyone’s lives, recording the century-old elegance of Taishan. Nanya Technology will continue to give back to the community, benefiting the locals.
President Lin Kunshan of the New Taipei City Taishan Arts and Culture Association said that art values creativity, and sketching emphasizes observation. Plants, insects, birds, beasts, houses, old streets, and ancient residences all contain rich cultural heritage. Through the observation involved in sketching, people can better understand the local culture and sentiments.
A social group participant shared that they have loved painting since childhood and have a religious belief that instills respect for temples and sages. They also serve as a cultural and historical tour guide volunteer. They expressed gratitude to the organizers for their meticulous planning and effort, which enhances the cultural and historical sentiment of Taishan, using painting to elevate the local history and aesthetic landscape.
A junior high school participant mentioned that the beautiful Taishan has an abundance of cultural characteristics. They chose the long-standing municipal historic site Taishan Top Temple. Through sketching, they had the opportunity to record its splendor from an artistic perspective and felt the touching protection it has quietly provided to Taishan residents for 270 years.
