Educational Philosophy and Objectives

As Ming Chi University of Technology celebrates its sixtieth year, we reflect on the journey of the founders, who, from a young age, faced challenges with the spirit of "straining their bodies, enduring hunger, enduring hardships, cultivating the mind, and gaining what they lacked." In a tough and impoverished environment, the deep brotherhood and collaboration led them to create the Formosa Plastics Group, demonstrating resilience and success. Remarkably, they maintained a keen awareness of life, cherished every aspect, and, even after achieving success, adhered to the principles of reasonableness and the spirit of "taking from society and giving back to society." Their contributions to the nation and society, along with numerous inspiring stories, earned them the reputation of "Taiwan's business deity and the deep brotherhood of the founders."

To embody the principle of leading by example, the university, from its inception, has placed special emphasis on mentorship, guidance, and the moral education of students, establishing the "Residential Life, Academy Education" system. Following the philosophy of "learning by doing," the university concurrently implemented the "Work-Study Practical Internship" system, requiring the active participation of all students. Thus, the school's educational philosophy focuses on cultivating students' practicality and interpersonal relationships through residential life education while, through the work-study system, fostering hands-on experience, practical application of theory, and problem-solving skills to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The school's core educational philosophy, along with its motto "Diligence and Simplicity," is closely intertwined. "Diligence" not only encourages students to work earnestly but also emphasizes doing the right things to accumulate useful experiences, enhancing both wisdom and self-confidence. Regarding "Simplicity" in life, it nurtures in students a mindset of contentment, humility, and tranquility, allowing them to focus on their goals. Combined with quality professional knowledge and skills, this approach aims to develop students into valuable talents.

Under the guidance of the school motto, the institution adheres to the sixteen-word educational maxim: "Diligence and Simplicity, Pursuit of Excellence, Sustainable Management, Dedication to Society." Seeking rationalization in all aspects, striving for excellence, and subtly integrating these principles into the daily work of the administrative team. In talent cultivation, the university aligns with the needs of industrial development, nurturing ethical and innovative professionals. In research and development, faculty and students collaboratively explore knowledge and technology to find sustainable solutions for Earth's environmental challenges, embodying the principle of "taking from society, using for society" in technological service to the nation.

With a holistic education approach, the university aims to cultivate individuals with a diligent and humble attitude, balancing theory and practice, and possessing a lifelong learning capability. Beyond fostering professional competence and competitiveness, the emphasis on humane care is crucial, developing talents who are content, grateful, morally upright, optimistic, and proactive in utilizing their strengths to serve the public. In response to societal changes, demographic challenges, and heightened competition, the university actively enhances its competitiveness to meet the increasingly stringent challenges. Due to strong public recognition and full support from the board of directors in the past, the university's financial structure is robust. Coupled with innovative and proactive administrative services, the foundation for sustainable development and the realization of educational goals has been solidified.
